How to Remove a Headlight Lens

1. Open the hood of your vehicle and locate the metal retaining clips that surround your headlight assembly if applicable.
2. Pry the retaining clips off the headlight assembly using a flat head screwdriver.
3. Wedge the tip of the flat head screwdriver between the lens and the main housing.

Here’s how it’s done.

1. Clean with soap and water.
2. Apply automotive-grade masking tape.
3. Spray headlights with soapy water.
4. Add toothpaste to a cloth and scrub gently.
5. Rinse toothpaste off.
6. Do the same thing on the other headlight.
7. Apply a coat of wax.
8. Use UV headlight sealant.

Using 0000 super fine steel wool and white toothpaste (Not Gel), rub the toothpaste over the lens for several minutes until your lens is completely smooth. After your headlight lens is perfectly clear, apply a coat of car wax following the directions on the container. Wash and wax regularly to keep protected.

Whatever you do, do not use nail polish remover. It will permanently cloud up any type of plastic. 95-96 headlights aren’t plastic and they never cloud up.

You may be able to remove surface dirt and grime by washing or spraying the headlight with vinegar. If the headlights have become hazy, foggy, or yellowed, you should use a mixture made of baking soda and vinegar.

Mix 1 to 2 tablespoons of baking soda with enough white vinegar to form a thick paste. Using a dry-cleaning cloth, gently polish the headlamp with the paste. Rinse the paste off with the spray bottle of water and repeat until the lens is clean and clear.

All you need is toothpaste and baking soda. Toothpaste can not only clean your teeth, it can also clean foggy headlights almost as well as other more expensive products. Just mix some baking soda and toothpaste and then spread it on your headlights. Use an old brush to rub the entire headlight cover vigorously.
