The movie is based on Mr Bhagat’s best-seller ‘Five Point Someone’ (FPS), a book inspired by his days as a student at IIT-Delhi. The makers of 3 Idiots acknowledged the connection, but Mr Bhagat’s mother left the movie hall crying because she couldn’t spot her son’s name in the credits.

AN- 3 idiots is very popular in Korea. During a V Live session with fans recently, the 1995-born singer mentioned that he had watched 3 Idiots – which instantly made the 2009 film a fresh viral hit among Korean and non-Korean fans.

The film was released in Taiwan in December 2010, followed by Hong Kong on 1 September 2011. In China, it was released as San Ge Shagua (“Three Idiots”), in December 2011. In South Korea, it was released in 2011.
