Library cards need to be renewed periodically, in order to help keep library records up to date. This also helps protect patron privacy, as expired cards are eventually purged from the system.

You can add multiple cards (either from one library system or for multiple libraries) and switching between accounts is a breeze. Since Libby is an extension of the library’s catalog, the digital books are limited to how many the library has purchased. Newer books have long waits.

All adult, teen and child library cards for cardholders in the NY Metro area and NY State expire and must be renewed every three years. New library card applicants who applied for a card online must validate their card before full cardholder privileges can be extended.

For most people in Nassau County, you must apply for a card at the library in the district or village where you live or own property. Once you have a card from your library, it can be used for most services at any NLS member library, as well as online.

How to borrow and deliver Kindle Books

1. Open your library’s digital collection (you can find it using www.overdrive.com).
2. Find a Kindle Book to borrow.
3. Select Borrow.
4. Choose a lending period for the title (if available).
5. After you borrow the title, select Read now with Kindle.

The trick is super simple. Before OverDrive reaches back through the ether to reclaim their content, throw your device into airplane mode. This works for any ereader, tablet, or smartphone.

You can borrow titles from any library as long as you have a library card for it. In certain cases, your library may have a partnership with another library or consortium that lets you borrow titles from the partner’s collection using your normal library card.
