If you have Firefox for Android available, use it to navigate to our demo at https://mdn.github.io/pwa-examples/a2hs/. You’ll see fox pictures, but more important, you’ll see a “home” icon with a plus (+) icon inside it — this is the “Add to Home screen” icon displayed for any site that has the necessary features in place.

1. Launch Chrome app (web browser).
2. Open the website or web page you want to pin to your home screen.
3. Tap the menu icon (3 dots in upper right-hand corner) and tap Add to homescreen.
4. You’ll be able to enter a name for the shortcut and then Chrome will add it to your home screen.

Press and hold the app icon until a popup appears. Select “Edit”. The following popup window shows you the app icon as well as the application’s name (which you can also change here). To choose a different icon, tap on the app icon.

You should have a web app manifest file with:

1. short_name – its used on the home screen just below the icon.
2. name – full name of your app.
3. icon – logo/icon of at least 192×192 png icon (the icon declarations must include a mime type of image/png)
4. start_url – the page that should load when the app opens.

If you do not see the “Add to Home Screen” option after you have opened the Mobile Gallery App installation link, you are most likely viewing from an unsupported browser (i.e. using the Gmail app on an iOS device, or the Twitter app from an Android device).

Add to Home screen (or A2HS for short) is a feature available in modern browsers that allows a user to “install” a web app, ie. add a shortcut to their Home screen representing their favorite web app (or site) so they can subsequently access it with a single tap.
