The reason they dont break any more is due to the break away rim it bends when a dunk happens and then springs back into postion also the rim isnt connected to the glass rather to the steel beams. Its clear why the nba wanted to avoid backboard shattering injuries aside it delays the game.

Wnba players mostly can’t dunk. The avergae height of a WNBA player is also about 6 inches shorter then the average NBA player which is a large factor in why they can’t dunk. Only a measly 14 dunks have ever taken place in a WNBA regular season game compared to 169,734 within the last 20 years of the NBA.
