Most BJD dolls are made of resin or high-grade plastic, which have to made in molds, which are extremely expensive to make. It is much, much, much less expensive to buy a resin or high-quality plastic BJD doll than to make one yourself.

For sites to buy dolls from, I definitely recommend Alice’s Collections, or Denver Doll Emporium (the latter if you live in the states). Both sites are dealers that carry a number of doll companies. There are lots of dolls over a wide price range, one of the cheaper companies is Resinsoul.

Of course, on average the same size doll would cost around $250-$350 from other companies and between $500-$2000 from artists. It really depends on your wishes for budget, aesthetic and size what you will eventually pay for the doll.

Souldoll is a Korean BJD company founded in 2002. They make dolls in several different sizes, alongside clothing and acrylic eyes. Most of their dolls have a more realistic appearance and can be ordered in white or normal skin. Default faceup option and special custom faceup services are available.

So then how much would it actually cost to make the prototype doll? If you have a skilled sculptor work on the doll, it will cost minimum $30,000 to $50,000. This cost vary depending on the quality of the doll or the capabilities of the sculptor.

MSD: (also called 1/4 scale; some refer to as mini or medium size; 36 to 48cm total height range) – The avg dolls are around 42cm tall or about 16-17 inches. This is about the height of a large fashion doll, like Tonner, or the height of an American Girl doll.

Large full size dolls, sometimes referred to as SD size from the Super Dollfie size range, are around 60 centimetres (24 inches). Roughly 1/3 scale, they usually represent fully grown teenagers or adult body types. Tiny BJDs are under 30 cm (12 in) tall.

1/6 scale dolls They’re 20-30cm and pretty child-like, typically. (Volks YoSD are the archetypical example here, but Fairyland LittleFee and Soom Teenie Gem are also in that category).

Every inch on the replica equals 16 inches on the real tractor. The larger the scale, the smaller the denominator; a 1/16 scale toy is much larger than a 1/87. “Scale” doesn’t refer to actual size. For example, a 1/16 scale toy could measure 8, 12, or 14 inches long.

A 1/4″ scale means that each 1/4″ (inch) on the plan counts for 1′ (feet) of actual physical length. To scale a blueprint in imperial units to actual feet. multiply the measurement on the drawing (in inches decimal equivalent) with the denominator.
