There was a large variety of jobs in Ancient Egypt. There were bakers, scribes, farmers, priests, doctors, craftsmen, merchants and many more. Jobs were usually inherited from your parents – if your father was a farmer, it would be very likely that you would become a farmer too.

Ancient Egyptian farmers paid taxes on their crops before the crops were allowed to be harvested. Sickles were used during the harvesting of grains such as barley, flax and wheat. Wealthy families would hire a team of workers to harvest their crops.

Because most farmers are land owners, they pay land taxes to both their county and to the school district where the property is located. They also pay income taxes. All year they keep track of all their income and expenses; the expenses are then deducted from the income to come up with a net income.

Farmers used this season to plant grain, barley and other fruits and vegetables. Also called the Season of the Harvest. Egyptians harvested the food they had planted, collected seeds to plant the following year and stored grain in large silos.

Tutankhamun helped restore traditional Egyptian religion and art, both of which had been set aside by his predecessor, Akhenaten. He issued a decree restoring the temples, images, personnel, and privileges of the old gods.
