All those different names are because people like to give names to things, and it doesn’t much matter if the names make sense. The areas that we call different oceans are all interconnected with wide, deep passages of salt water.

It would probably surprise no one to learn that ancient Greece was behind the etymology of the Atlantic Ocean. Specifically, the word comes from an inflected form of Atlas, the titan from Greek Mythology, whose punishment for fighting with the Olympic gods was to carry the sky on his shoulders for all eternity.

Nicknames For Athena. We call her Thena, Ena or Attie, and sometimes Little Owl, since the owl is one of the Goddess Athena’s symbols.
