In the film, it happens when Ginny takes Harry to the Room of Requirement to hide the Half Blood Prince’s potions book. In the book Harry and Ginny’s first kiss is really amazing. It’s a heat of the moment leap that Harry took and JK Rowling wrote it so well.

The kiss in the film has a much different tone. In the movie, Cho is calm and collected as she stays behind after the Dumbledore’s Army meeting. She does express a moment of grief for Cedric Diggory, but she seems sure as she kisses Harry under the mistletoe. Cho and Harry’s breakup feels much less warranted.

When Harry and Cho Chang have that intense and awkward kiss in The Order of the Phoenix. Warner Bros. It felt like it was a bit too much for two 15-year-olds having their first kiss, especially since Cho was just talking about how she loved Cedric and how much she missed him right before they kissed.

Ginny
In the book, Harry kissed Ginny after Gryffindor won their Quidditch game, whereas, in the 2009 movie, it was Ginny who boldly kissed him, just before the pair disappeared into the Room of Requirement.

At the last D.A. meeting before Christmas break, Harry is left alone with Cho Chang. Cho starts to cry and admits that she is thinking about Cedric, her boyfriend. Cedric was killed by Voldemort at the close of Book IV. Standing under the mistletoe, Harry and Cho kiss.

The two look pretty intimate and actually share a kiss while Harry is watching them, but the kiss isn’t really anything special — in fact, it’s pretty tame.

‘Dunno,’ said Harry, who hadn’t considered this, and immediately felt rather worried. ‘Maybe I am.’ The verdict: This was Harry’s first-ever kiss and it must have been pretty confusing. Poor Cho was still really upset about Cedric’s death the previous year, and then of course there were those Nargles in the mistletoe.

There was a clatter as the Basilisk fangs cascaded out of Hermione’s arms. Running at Ron, she flung them around his neck and kissed him full on the mouth. Ron threw away the fangs and broomstick he was holding and responded with such enthusiasm that he lifted Hermione off her feet’.

And while Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger have a pretty intense love story, Harry Potter himself ends up with quite a passionate love affair with Ginny Weasley, who almost has a love affair with Dean, another boy at Hogwarts, instead.
