Henry Ford was an American automobile manufacturer who created the Model T in 1908 and went on to develop the assembly line mode of production, which revolutionized the automotive industry. As a result, Ford sold millions of cars and became a world-famous business leader.

“The Battle of the Overpass,” Ford’s 1937 response to attempts at unionization, was led by Bennett. Ford fought unionization until 1941. While rumor had it that Ford wanted Bennett to replace him as president, that job went to Henry Ford II, who fired Bennett in 1945.

After burning his Ford Motor Company records in his basement office after Henry Ford II fired him there, Bennett retired to an 800-acre estate and wilderness area he owned near Desert Springs, California. In 1975, he entered the Beverly Manor Nursing Home in Los Gatos, California, where on January 4, 1979, he died.

Ford Hunger march or also known as Ford massacre was a demonstration by the unemployed workers which resulted in police firing and a total of five people were killed and 60 were injured. The march was a result of unemployment caused during the Economic Depression.

The Hunger March resulted in four workers being shot and killed by Dearborn police and Ford Motor Company security guards. A few months later a fifth person died of his injuries.

The Ford Hunger March also became known as the Ford Massacre and sparked an outcry against the police brutality of unemployed protesters. On 12 March 1932, around 60,000 people came together for a funeral procession for the four dead marchers, all four of whom were members of the Young Communist League.

Not only did Henry Ford increase the wages of his employees, but he also decreased the number of hours they were responsible for working. Henry Ford decreased the shifts by one hour and gave employees higher wages.

Ford’s idea for increasing the wage of his workers was successful . He was trying to seek out more long-term employees so he would have a more professional and dedicated workforce. Since he raised the wage he had some of the best production numbers ever heard of.

Henry Ford may have paid his workers a good wage, but it wasn’t out of charity — it was a good business decision that some say helped the middle class take off. He says Ford proved that higher wages led to more productivity, which in turn was good for business.

How did Ford react to backers who wanted him to do things their way (make a car for the rich)? Ford understood the want for a “classier”, “chicer” looking car that was and looked solely for the wealthy, so Ford compromised. He designed a sleek, classy car that was affordable.

Today, newly hired workers start at $15.78 per hour and earn a maximum of $19.28 per hour.
