Here is what you should and should not wear when visiting the Vatican: Avoid any top that is sleeveless: a blouse, a short-sleeved shirt or T-shirt will do just fine; Cropped tops showing off your belly are definitely a bad outfit choice; Wear trousers, jeans, dresses or skirts that are knee-length.

Michelangelo

Michelangelo completed the Sistine Chapel in 1512. Its importance in the history of art cannot be overstated.

Because one is not allowed to talk in the Sistine Chapel, the tour guide had to explain all about it outside the chapel itself. They had cleverly put huge posters of the paintings with little plaques for ease of explaining.

You are not no permitted to take photos inside the Sistine Chapel. The rest of the museums you can but 100% not aloud in the chapel.

The entrance to the basilica is free. To see the museums, which includes the Sistine chapel, it costs 14 euros.

No shorts, short trousers, short skirts, sleeveless shirts or bare shoulders. All visitors to the Vatican Museums will be required to pass through a metal-detector prior to being granted admittance. You may not make sketches or drawings without prior permission from the museum management.

There is nothing to stop you from taking a backpack into the Vatican but you may have to check it in at the cloakroom. According to the Vatican website any backpack bigger than 40cm x 30cm x 15cm must be checked in as well as any bag that is cumbersome and juts out from the body more than 15cm.

The laws are based on the Italian Penal Code of 1929 (the time of the founding of the sovereignty of Vatican City). There are no criminal laws against non-commercial, private, adult and consensual same-sex sexual activity.
