Google Meet is a free video conferencing tool with paid plans that range from $6 per user per month to $18 per user per month. Google Meet is the web conferencing solution developed by Google that allows you to schedule, host, and manage video meetings for personal and professional use.

How to start a video meeting

Cons: The only drawback to switching to Google Meet was needing to relearn some basic functions like sharing screens. Many of us spent the first six months of COVID exclusively using Zoom, so it took some time to pivot to Google Meet.

It is possible that your Google account has not been given the necessary permissions to join the meeting. Again, this can be true for workplaces too. You will have to ask your administrator to make sure that your computer and Google ID is whitelisted before you may join Google Meet meetings.

Google Meet is an excellent video conferencing product on in its own, though you’ll only unlock its full potential if you pay for a Google Workspace subscription.

You don’t need a Google Account to participate in Meet video meetings. However, if you don’t have a Google Account, the meeting organizer or someone from the organization must grant you access to the meeting.

Google Meet vs Zoom: Interface and Layout One of the most popular aspects of Zoom is that it can display up to 49 participants on one screen. Whereas Google Meet allows up to 16 participants showing on the screen simultaneously on its tiled layout.

They each also offer higher participant counts (300 for Teams video calling and 250 for Google Meet) than Zoom Meetings’ 100. When it comes down to the video conferencing component, Google Meet is a far stronger and more intuitive product than the video calling feature on Microsoft Teams.

Google Meet and Microsoft Teams are both very similar in the way that they provide meeting solutions as part of a comprehensive productivity platform. Similar to Microsoft Teams being available as part of the Microsoft 365 stack, Google is a standard part of the G-Suite, available for anyone who uses Google technology.
