It’s 1998, and a decade of terror comes to a close with the capture of Elizabeth Caulfield, a serial killer who abducted and murdered the young girls she pretended were her own. All but one. Christina Bowden lives a lonely and unassuming existence until Caulfield escapes from prison.

Risen starts off with a good pace but two scenes in, it slows down like it’s stuck in quicksand. And it stays that way with long lulls between the action throughout the entire movie. Save for a handful of scenes, the entire film is “meh” at best.

Risen is a pretty riveting film from director Kevin Reynolds. No hammy acting or dogmatic bluntness, thanks to Fiennes’ layered performance as a conflicted man. I highly recommend for believers and non-believers alike. April 19, 2019 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

Age Appropriate For: 13+. This faith-based film about a Roman soldier changing his mind about religion after witnessing Jesus’s resurrection includes a variety of Biblical violence, including some beatings, impalings, stabbings, crucifixion, battle violence and combat, as well as some drinking.

It is therefore not a fact-based account, but a suggestion of what could have happened from, the vantage point of a skeptic. It’s an interesting approach to a well-known tale, and it’s also not the first time that a movie has examined a story from a different character’s point of view.
