The Big Three refers to three very long and very popular anime, Naruto, Bleach and One Piece. The Big Three was a term used to describe the three most popular running series during their golden age in Jump’s mid 2000s period – One Piece, Naruto and Bleach.

One Piece’s creator was inspired by Dragon Ball Given the enormous success of both One Piece and Dragon Ball, it makes sense that Eiichiro Oda was inspired in part by what Akira Toriyama had done with his series.

Glutton of the Sea” is the 590th episode of the One Piece anime. It is a crossover between One Piece, Toriko, and Dragon Ball Z.

At first glance this may seem like a simple homage Dragon Ball author Akira Toriyama made to his heir apparent Eiichiro Oda, creator of One Piece. Especially since both comics are published by the same company, these kind of cameo appearances are not unusual.

Oda is a fan of Akira Toriyama. In a Jump interview, when asked about his inspirations, he said, “I mirrored many traits and tropes for Luffy off of Son Goku. By far the manga that inspired me the most was Dragon Ball and I think the same could be said for many other mangaka.

So in both the English and Japanese versions, in one of the flashbacks to Luffy and Shanks big interaction, Yassop says “I have boys older than you”.
