Warm it up to 6000 Kelvin (about the temperature of the Sun, 5700 C or 10,000 F) and it peaks in the blue-green. Heat it up more, and the peaks moves into the blue, or even toward shorter wavelengths.

As light from a star races through our atmosphere, it bounces and bumps through the different layers, bending the light before you see it. Since the hot and cold layers of air keep moving, the bending of the light changes too, which causes the star’s appearance to wobble or twinkle.

Green and purple stars do exist. The color of stars depends on their temperatures, and they emit radiation throughout the visible spectrum. And when a star emits peak radiation at a violet wavelength, it also emits a lot of blue.

Although you can spot many colors of stars in the night sky, purple and green stars aren’t seen because of the way humans perceive visible light.

Blue

A blue-colored moon is more rare and can indicate a moon seen through an atmosphere carrying larger dust particles. What created the purple moon is unclear — it may be a combination of several effects. The next full moon will occur at the end of this month (moon-th) and is known in some cultures as the Beaver Moon.

Colour temperature is often called CCT (Correlated Colour Temperature) and used to describe the colour of a light source. We usually refer to light below 3300 K as warm-white, between 3300 K and 5300 K as neutral-white, and above 5300 K as cold-white. Moon light has about 4000 K.

3500K-4100K is a neutral white light and its good for photography. 4800K-5000K is recommended for make up application and photography as it is not too warm or too cool.
