The Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal (NAM) is a decoration presented by the United States Department of the Navy to service members of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps who have performed commendably in routine duties or exceptional achievements, that have not been recognized by a higher award.

It is awarded for meritorious service or achievement in either combat or noncombat based on sustained performance or specific achievement of a superlative nature but which does not warrant a Navy Commendation Medal or higher.

(4) Commanding Officer, Naval Academy Preparatory School and the Commandant of Midshipmen are authorized to approve Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals (NC) and lesser awards.

Citations for the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals shall be prepared in all upper case letters in Courier New, size 10, and are limited to 7 1/2 typewritten lines with margins of one inch.

Although the Commendation Medal isn’t uncommon in today’s military service, it’s a great achievement all the same. Service members who display acts of heroism or meritorious achievements while performing their duties should be recognized for their contribution to their unit and the nation.
