Singleton Hospital/Number of beds

Ward 6 at Singleton Hospital will be home to the new centralised Orthogeriatric Service, and will include the setting up of a dedicated therapy service so patients will have fast and improved access to specialists.

The Singleton Assessment Unit (SAU) is a front door service dealing with sick patients referred directly from GPs and other community health professionals. The SAU sees about 8,500 medical admissions a year, and is a vital component of the health board’s unscheduled care service.

Singleton Hospital, overlooking Swansea Bay, hosts a range of services including acute assessment, acute medicine and care of the elderly. It has about 330 beds and provides a regional, consultant-led maternity unit and neonatal intensive care.

A&E departments assess and treat patients with serious injuries or illnesses. Singleton Minor Injury Unit is temporarily closed pending consideration by the Health Board and Community Health Council on the way forward. Outpatients/Day Clinics run between 9.00am & 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

Visiting hours are noon to 5pm only. No Covid-19 testing is required. However, visitors must display no signs or symptoms of Covid-19 and be fit and well generally.

The new facilities in Ward 4 will see improvements in privacy and dignity for male and female patients and provide an appropriate care setting, plus an appropriately equipped and monitored space to observe elderly care patients according to clinical need.
