For miniature painting, the painters use a special handmade paper known as “wasli” in several parts of India. It is made by fusion of multiple layers of sheets that are extracted from rice stalk, bamboo, and other things that are designed for this purpose.

Traditional miniature painting is classically very smooth and painted on surfaces such as vellum, card or paper, panel, ivory, or other similar surface. The surfaces of miniatures resemble their earliest counterparts, the miniature painted in manuscripts and documents.

Miniatures or small-sized paintings are generally done on cloth or paper using water colours, although the earliest were done on palm leaves and wood. The Mughals used them mainly to illustrate historical accounts of battles, scenes from the court, lives of people, etc. They were also used to illustrate Jain texts.

Miniature paintings started as illustrations for sacred texts in the eastern and western parts of India. In eastern India, this art form flourished under the Pala Kings (750 A.D. to the middle of the 12th century) and was based on the religious theme of Buddhism

Miniature art is also unique in that it was and is often used on objects, such as the Russian lacquer boxes that are beautiful examples of Russian miniature painting. Today, there are miniature art societies in western society to help promote and preserve traditional miniature art and the “spirit of miniature”.

What Is Symbolic Interactionism? While it might seem like a big name, symbolic interactionism is how your experiences add subjective meanings to symbols and letters. For example, the word ‘dog’ is just a series of letters. Through your interactions with the letters ‘dog’, you see this as a furry, four-legged canine.

There are three core principles in symbolic interaction perspective of Blumer: Meaning, language (language provides means [symbols] for debating meaning) and thinking principle. Symbolic interaction theory acknowledges the principle of meaning as the center of human behavior.

Symbolic interactionism is a micro-level theory that focuses on the relationships among individuals within a society. Social scientists who apply symbolic-interactionist thinking look for patterns of interaction between individuals. Their studies often involve observation of one-on-one interactions.

The importance of symbols to the development of humans both as individuals and collectives is at the heart of symbolic interaction theory. Symbolic interactionism is essentially about how the presence of symbols is fundamental to the existence of societies, our self-concepts, and our minds.

Three theoretical perspectives guide sociological thinking on social problems: functionalist theory, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionist theory. These perspectives look at the same social problems, but they do so in different ways.

Symbolic interactionists argue that shared activities help to build emotional bonds, and that marriage and family relationships are based on negotiated meanings. The interactionist perspective emphasizes that families reinforce and rejuvenate bonds through symbolic rituals such as family meals and holidays.

Functionalism. When considering the role of family in society, functionalists uphold the notion that families are an important social institution and that they play a key role in stabilizing society. They also note that family members take on status roles in a marriage or family.

According to Murdock, the family (which for him includes the state of marriage) regulates sexual relations between individuals. He does not deny the existence or impact of premarital or extramarital sex, but states that the family offers a socially legitimate sexual outlet for adults (Lee 1985).
