The fact is, California is already overpopulated; it is why we’re seeing Californians leave the state in record numbers. Overpopulation leads to reduced quality of life.

According to 2018 US Census Bureau estimates, California’s population was 59.5% White (36.6% Non-Hispanic White), 14.7% Asian, 13.8% Some Other Race, 5.8% Black or African American, 0.8% Native American and Alaskan Native, 0.4% Pacific Islander and 5.1% from two or more races.

California has been steadily losing people to other states for years. From 2010 to 2020, about 6.1 million people left for other states and only 4.9 million arrived from other parts of the country, according to an analysis of census data by the Public Policy Institute of California.

And while some former Californians have loudly proclaimed that they’re taking their families and dollars elsewhere out of distaste for the state’s liberal politics, almost half of the adults who left California in the 2010s said they left primarily for jobs, and nearly a quarter said their primary reason for leaving …

California has experienced more than a century of rapid growth, spurred by the Gold Rush and industrial booms in farming, oil drilling, entertainment, aerospace and big tech. But in recent decades, this growth has slowed more than ever, and more people are now leaving the Golden State than those coming in.

Nevada is the place where’s you’d most likely run into a 2019 California transplant. The Silver State’s cross-border relocations equaled 1,552 per 100,000 Nevadans. Next came Idaho at 1,004; Oregon at 908; Arizona at 829; and Hawaii at 784.

The United Van Lines study found the top reasons for moving were jobs, family, and retirement. “Suddenly, you know, those beautiful ocean and mountain views that they have in California aren’t so important as having space for your family,” Hovsepian explained.
