Use an exclamation mark after ‘Hello’ when you’re raising your voice to attract somebody’s attention – not after a simple greeting.

Periods go at the end of declarative sentences, question marks go at the end of interrogative sentences, and exclamation points go at the end of exclamatory sentences. An exclamatory sentence is one that expresses a strong or forceful emotion, such as anger, surprise, or joy. I got a perfect score on the SAT!

A question mark (?) is a punctuation symbol placed at the end of a sentence or phrase to indicate a direct question, as in: She asked, “Are you happy to be home?” The question mark is also called an interrogation point, note of interrogation, or question point.

‘Good morning all’ is neutral. The DJ would say this with a bit more expression and with more of a flourish than my teachers would say ‘Good morning all’. If you want to preface your greeting with ‘A’, then you need your second option: A good morning to all.

Because “hey” is an interjection like “wow” and not an adjective like “dear,” it requires a comma separating it from the name.

If you are telling someone “thank you” directly, you always need a comma after “thank you.” This is the most common way of using the phrase, so in most cases you will want that comma. You should also put a comma or a period after “thank you” if it’s the last part of a letter or email before your name or signature.

Typically, commas are used to set off nouns of direct address. If the direct address is at the beginning of the sentence, use a comma after the direct address. If the direct address comes at the end of the sentence, use a comma right before the direct address.

Please do not use “and/or” in either formal or informal writing. In common English, the “or” is a “non-exclusive or” which means “either A or B, or A and B”. When I say “I can have a banana OR I can have coffee” then I am also OK with having both.

And/or, however, is not ambiguous at all. It has a definite, agreed-upon meaning: when used properly, the construct means “A or B or both.” In most areas of law, there simply is no compelling reason to avoid using and/or. The term is clear and concise.
