In 1821, after studying the various units of measurement used by the 22 states, Secretary of State John Quincy Adams determined that the U.S. Customary System was sufficiently uniform and required no changes.

Article I, Section 8 of the U. S. Constitution gives Congress the power to “fix the standard of weights and measures” for the nation. Thomas Jefferson proposed to the Congress of the United States a decimal based measurement system. Congress took no action.

The biggest reasons the U.S. hasn’t adopted the metric system are simply time and money. When the Industrial Revolution began in the country, expensive manufacturing plants became a main source of American jobs and consumer products.

Although U.S. customary units have been defined in terms of metric units since the 19th century, as of 2021 the United States is one of only three countries (the others being Myanmar and Liberia) that have not officially adopted the metric system as the primary means of weights and measures.

Fahrenheit to Celsius Conversion Chart

After Fahrenheit’s death in 1736, the Fahrenheit scale was recalibrated to make it slightly more accurate. The exact freezing and boiling points of plain water, minus the salt, were marked at 32 and 212 degrees Fahrenheit, respectively.

We’ve all been taught that water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, 0 degrees Celsius, 273.15 Kelvin. Scientists have found liquid water as cold as -40 degrees F in clouds and even cooled water down to -42 degrees F in the lab.

32°C ?? That’s searing heat. 32°F = 0°C, that’s cold but good, just the temperature we have right now here in Holland take or leave a degree.

Normal room temperature is about 295 K, as seen in the following example. If the normal room temperature is 72.0°F, what is room temperature in degrees Celsius and kelvin? So, room temperature is about 295 K. Normal body temperature is defined as being 98.6°F (+/- 1.0°F).
