Semiotics is the study of works of art signs and symbols, either individually or grouped in sign systems that can give us more insight from the work source and meaning. All painters work in a pictorial language by following a set of standards, basics and rules of picture-making.

Symbolism is one of the most important elements in giving your art depth. It can be in the colors of a painting, the metaphors in a poem, or the setting of a scene or book. Symbols can be very broad, like a storm that symbolizes danger, or a crow that symbolizes death.

In art, a symbol is something recognizable that stands for or represents something else—an idea or concept that would be hard to draw or paint, such as love or hope for eternal life.

The TYP. or Typ. in a construction drawing refers to “Typical”. TYPICAL or TYP indicates the number of places the geometry feature or dimension appears on a drawing. This is used when similar features are available and to avoid unnecessary dimensioning in the drawing.

On some small or simple projects the work is straightforward enough not to need any further detailed construction information. If the building is more complicated, the materials unusual or the work of very high standard, then detailed construction drawings will be necessary.
