As the other members have told you, the correct form is ‘a year’. This is because the sound represented by the letter ‘y’ is a consonant (like b,c,d,f,g and so on). We use ‘an’ before vowel sounds – ‘an apple’, ‘an egg’, ‘an Indian’, ‘an orange’ or ‘an umbrella’. Remember that this is a rule about SOUNDS, not spelling.

How much is holiday pay? This means if your employee works over 40 hours during the week of typical paid holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Day, they are entitled to “time and a half” for the hours worked over 40 hours. In California and a few other states, there’s also a daily overtime standard.

Federal and state laws require most employers to pay overtime. This means an employee who works overtime must be paid “time and a half”—the employee’s usual hourly wage plus the 50% overtime premium—for every overtime hour worked.
