Q. What is the real story of Shiva?
There are many both benevolent and fearsome depictions of Shiva. In benevolent aspects, he is depicted as an omniscient Yogi who lives an ascetic life on Mount Kailash as well as a householder with wife Parvati and his two children, Ganesha and Kartikeya. In his fierce aspects, he is often depicted slaying demons.

Q. Why do we pray to Shiva linga?
Though all the other idols are worshipped in their human forms, the Lord Mahadev is worshipped in the form of Shiva Linga which represents the divine energy. In yogic lore, the Shiva linga is considered the first form to arise when creation occurs, and also the last form before the dissolution of creation.
Q. Can we keep Shiva linga at home?
Yes you can worship and keep shiv ling at home happily. The Consecration of SHIVA Linga takes place in 3-ways : 1. Sthira Pratishtha (permanent installation) done in SHIVA Temple.
Q. Which side should Shiva lingam face?
The Shiva Linga should always be placed facing the North direction . That means the out- let of any liquid poured on Shiva Linga should be in North direction. Worshipping the Shiva linga facing East or North direction is consider auspicious .
Q. What happens when shivling breaks?
Due to lightning the shivling breaks into pieces, then priest of the temple applies butter as an ointment on the fragmented Shivling to relieve the pain of Mahadev. The Shivling is said to be called Butter Mahadev by the locals and some people even call it Bijili Mahadev.
Q. Where should I keep my broken Shivling?
The broken SHIVA Linga should be immersed either in the sea, or in the river or in a pond of drinking water or in a well of drinking water after offering Pooja & Aarthi at the shores of those places.
Q. Is White shivling good for home?
Yes, it is an inauspicious to have Lord Shiva stone idol at homes. If anybody takes stone type idol or whether it is white stone idol it prohibits in his home. Otherwise, it should be worshiped in Mandir where Puja is offered every day by Pujari.
Q. Can we keep shivling in Tulsi plant?
One should not offer Tulsi leaves on a shivling. According to legend, she was the wife of demon Shankhchud who was killed by Lord Shiva. Hence, offering Tulsi leaves to Shiva is prohibited. As Tulsi is a female plant so avoid keeping thorny bushes or plants like a cactus around.
