The town of Hagerman was named after James P. Hagerman, a local railroad attorney. The town held about 250 residents and was built along the old Katy Railroad. Residents began to abandon the town in the 1920’s when they received word that the town would be flooded by the creation of Lake Texoma.

Today, the site of North Fork Town lies under the waters of Lake Eufaula. But its deep roots as an important town on the Canadian River provide the town of Eufaula with a rich heritage.

Lake Texoma is one of the largest reservoirs in the United States, the 12th largest US Army Corps of Engineers’ lake, and the largest in USACE Tulsa District.

The Red River is in the Mississippi drainage basin and is one of two Red Rivers in the nation. It is the second longest river associated with Texas. Its name comes from its color, which in turn comes from the fact that the river carries large quantities of red soil in flood periods. The river has a high salt content.
