The Classical period

Whereas most popular styles are usually written in song form, classical music is noted for its development of highly sophisticated instrumental musical forms, like the concerto, symphony and sonata. Classical music is also noted for its use of sophisticated vocal/instrumental forms, such as opera.

Which is the main characteristic of chamber music? Chamber music was created for performance in large concert halls. In chamber music, memorization is crucial. During the Classical period, a sonata usually had at least one movement in sonata form.

• an emphasis on elegance and balance.
• short well-balanced melodies and clear-cut question and answer phrases.
• mainly simple diatonic harmony.
• mainly homophonic textures (melody plus accompaniment) but with some use of counterpoint (where two or more melodic lines are combined)
• use of contrasting moods.

At the time, “chamber” referred to ensemble music for voices and instruments performed at small gatherings, usually at court or at home. stressing personal expression and the conversation among players, rather than virtuosic display or leadership by a conductor.

1700s

Nirvana are an English pop rock band, formed in London, England in 1965. Though the band achieved only limited commercial success, they were acclaimed both by music industry professionals and by critics. In 1985, the band reformed.
