The unemployment rate for people ages 16 to 24 in the United States in 2020 was 14.9 percent. However, this rate was much lower for people aged 45 and over, at 6.7 percent.

As a result, the lack of proper services for homeless individuals can cause a cycle for unemployment and homelessness. Without a livable wage, individuals can find it increasing difficult to live in an area, much less to find an employment that will sustain their needs.

Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 850,000 in June, and the unemployment rate was little changed at 5.9 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

In April 2020, Nevada had the highest unemployment rate (28.2 percent), followed by Michigan (22.7 percent), and Hawaii (22.3 percent). Connecticut had the lowest unemployment rate, 7.9 percent. The next lowest rates were in Minnesota (8.1 percent) and Nebraska (8.3 percent).

Unemployment Hawaii had the highest unemployment rate in May, 8.1 percent. The next highest rates were in New Mexico, 8.0 percent, and California, 7.9 percent. New Hampshire had the lowest jobless rate, 2.5 percent, closely followed by Nebraska and Vermont, 2.6 percent each.
