Your mailman does not need a holiday tip. Under federal regulations, mail carriers are permitted to accept a gift worth $20 or less from a customer per occasion, such as Christmas. However, cash and cash equivalents, such as checks or gift cards that can be exchanged for cash, must never be accepted in any amount.

USPS is operated by a 11-person Board of Governors (which resembles the board of directors of a public corporation)—the Postmaster General, his deputy (currently vacant), and nine governors appointed by the President and approved by the Senate for seven-year terms.

As a postal worker, you must follow federal rules, and you receive federal benefits. However, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics doesn’t consider postal workers federal employees because the postal service is a quasi-federal agency.

If you’re at your MRA with less than 10 years of service, you’re eligible for a deferred retirement at 62, as explained above. If you’re at your MRA with at least 10 years but less than 20 years of service, if you wait until age 62 to apply the retirement benefit, the age reduction penalty will be eliminated.

The United States Postal Service is a good company to work for. The work is enjoyable; However, the load can be a bit much at times. It offers good pay, benefits, and opportunity for advancement. I work a an RCA (a sub for regular rural mail carriers).

Overall, there are good people who work for the USPS but unfortunately the miserable individuals outnumber them greatly. It’s not enough communication. all around it is just extremely stressful because whatever I do no matter how hard I work even without having any breaks I’m still the blame for it.

The Postal Service offers generous annual (vacation) and sick leave – 13 days of annual leave per year for the first 3 years, increasing to 20 days per year after 3 years of service, and to 26 days per year after 15 years of service.

Mail carriers receive raises based on seniority, leading to higher pay over time. At the lowest, the bottom 10 percent of mail carriers earn approximately $17.78 per hour, or $36,990 per year. At the highest, the top 10 percent of mail carriers earn approximately $30.75 per hour, or $63,970 per year.

The Postal Service recognizes that many persons with criminal records have demonstrated successful rehabilitation and are capable of performing the duties of postal jobs. The short answer is yes, the USPS says they’re willing to hire felons.

Not difficult but there are some requirements that have to be met. You need to have a clean drug test, no felonies in your background, be willing to work hard, lifting requirements for different jobs. You will have to be flexible with your work days because most jobs are part time at girst. Good luck.

Shifts starting as early as 4:00 am to 8:00 am. There are also evening and night shifts.

Postal letter carriers begin delivery as early as 5:00 AM.

For employees who are not full time regulars, the USPS can work you up to 12.5 hours a day (that includes a 30 minute lunch though) and work you up to seven days a week, but that combination of hours and days cannot be more than 60 hours a week.

You can ask to pick up your mail at the post office. If you are going out of town, management might accommodate you, but they will not do it if you just want your mail early. It’s not a good idea to stop your carrier on the route. Rural carriers may have letters and flats together, but city carriers do not.

City carriers typically use a mail truck that is provided to city carriers to drive to a route and then walk several streets or deliver to multiple businesses before returning to the vehicle and driving to a new location. Invest in good shoes if you choose this career path – some carriers walk up to 12 miles a day.

If you are a rural route carrier you use your own vehicle, but they reimburse some of the cost of the use of your vehicle.
