African music is a vital part of everyday life in Africa. It is a part of religious ceremonies, festivals, and social rituals. Songs are used for the important events in a person’s life (birth, coming of age, marriage, and death). They are used for curing the sick, bringing rain, and religious dances.

Early attempts at notating African music were made by T.E. The single and double iron bells, which probably originated in Kwa-speaking West Africa, spread to western Central Africa with Iron Age Bantu-speaking peoples and from there to Zimbabwe and the Zambezi River valley.

The biggest contribution by European conquerors to the music scene in the continent was with languages. Spanish and Portuguese were heavily used, and to this very day, they are the basis on which most Latin American music is based.

Afro–Latin Americans or Black Latin Americans (sometimes Afro-Latinos or Afro-Latinx), are Latin Americans of significant or mainly African ancestry. The term Afro–Latin American is not widely used in Latin America outside academic circles.

After all, Spaniards are technically considered Hispanic by the U.S. Census Bureau, which defines the term as “a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race.”2020年2月9日

Hispanic is commonly used in the eastern portion of the United States, whereas Latino is commonly used in the western portion of the United States. Since the 2000 Census, the identifier has changed from “Hispanic” to “Spanish/Hispanic/Latino”.

Presently, the US Census Bureau excludes both the Portuguese and Brazilians under its Hispanic ethnic category (Garcia)

The Portuguese are a Southwestern European population, with origins predominantly from Southern and Western Europe. The earliest modern humans inhabiting Portugal are believed to have been Paleolithic peoples that may have arrived in the Iberian Peninsula as early as 35,000 to 40,000 years ago.

To be counted in the 2020 Census, individuals of Portuguese ancestry should mark an “X” on the race or races that applies to each person in the household, for example white, black, etc. Then they should write “Portuguese” under any race, and they can write up to six origins

This population is made up mostly of those of Spanish origin, while there are also Salvadorans of French, German, Swiss, English, Irish, and Italian descent.
