Telangana covers an area of 1,12,077 sq km, which is 3.41 per cent of the geographical area of the country. The State is endowed with rich diversity of flora and fauna. The State has dense teak forests on the northern part along the banks of river Godavari.

Adilabad

District-wise, Karimnagar, Jogulamba Gadwal, and Hyderabad have the lowest reserved-forest cover of 0.2 per cent, 0.3 per cent, and 0.8 per cent, respectively.

Karimnagar region was originally called as Elagandala. It was ruled by Western Chalukyas and was also part of the great Satavahana Empire. Later, the Nizams of Hyderabad changed the name of this region to Karimnagar, which was derived from the name Syed Karimullah Shah SahebQuiladar.

The city was originally called Baghnagar “city of gardens”, and later acquired the name Hyderabad.

Kotilingala in Karimnagar district was the first capital of the Satavahana Kingdom (230 BCE–220 CE). Formerly known as Sabbinadu, inscriptions dating to the Kakatiya dynasty (1083–1323) by kings Prola II and Prataparudra found at Karimnagar and Srisailam provide evidence of the area’s rich history.

Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao, popularly known as KCR, was born in Chintamadaka, Medak Dist, Telangana, India to Sri Raghava Rao and Smt. Venkatamma on February 17, 1954 . After leading the Telangana movement to its desired end, he became the first Chief Minister of the State.
