William Clark as he stood at the Columbia River Estuary up north. The expedition ultimately settled on the south side of the Columbia in December of 1805 (15 miles north of Seaside in present day Astoria).

The Corps of Discovery departed from Camp Dubois (Camp Wood) at 4 pm on May 14, 1804. Under Clark’s command, they traveled up the Missouri River in their keelboat and two pirogues to St. Charles, Missouri where Lewis joined them six days later. The expedition set out the next afternoon, May 21.

Meriwether Lewis’s death has been a source of speculation for many years, often with the mistaken notion that “great men” do not take their own lives, and that suicide blights the memory of a great life. However, those closest to Lewis, Thomas Jefferson and William Clark, fully accepted the reports of suicide.

But, as The Terror depicts, what the sailors really feared was scurvy, believed to be contagious and spread by unsanitary conditions onboard. In reality, scurvy is caused by vitamin C deficiency, with some sufferers only showing symptoms after a month or longer.

She was trapped in the ice for ten months. In the spring of 1837, an encounter with an iceberg further damaged the ship. She nearly sank on her return journey across the Atlantic, and was in a sinking condition by the time Back was able to beach the ship on the coast of Ireland on 21 September.

AMC has announced that the network’s critically acclaimed first anthology series, The Terror, has been renewed. A 10-episode second season is slated to air in 2019.

Set during World War II, Infamy follows a group of Japanese Americans who are subjected to the cruelties of internment, all the while being stalked by a malicious supernatural entity.
