Gibson Flying V Like mahogany, Korina is warm, fat and resonant, and Gibson’s original Korina guitars are worth a pretty penny today. But mahogany is a great modern choice, and along with Gibson’s legendary humbucking pickups gives the Flying V its thick, rich tone.

Other than that, it’s absolutely fine. The majority of Dean’s lineup is made in Korea, only the bottom rung stuff is made in China. My ML AT3000 has a rather thin neck, both in thickness and width, and has the small frets you’re talking about. It’s a comfortable neck but I’m not big on small necks in the first place.

Every Dean guitar made in United States comes with a seven digit serial number that is printed on the back of the headstock (some 90s models may be stamped on the fretboard). First two numbers in the sequence are the last two digits of the production year.

Look for a date marker on the neck. If those two dates match up, that’s probably the exact date your guitar was built. If they don’t, it could indicate that the guitar’s neck was replaced at some point, or that the guitar was built from spare parts and is not an original build.

What Guitar Does James Hetfield Play? James Hetfield primarily plays Explorer-style guitars made by Ken Lawrence, Gibson, as well as ESP. James is also known to own and play several V style guitars as well as Les Pauls. He’s played many others throughout his career.

To date, Hetfield has had six signature guitars with the company.

James and Kirk talk utilizing standard tuning on two latest albums. James and Kirk from Metallica recently discussed the differences between standard and drop tuning, with Hetfield explaining how both approaches are equally valid for different situations.

Hetfield’s use of effects is minimal. As noted above, he did use a Proco Rat or an Ibanez Tube Screamer as a boost when he used Marshalls, but he did not always like the resulting tones. Hetfield is known to employ a parametric equalizer to shape the midrange character of his tone in the studio.

The tight, high-gain of channel three is just what you need for a Hetfield tone, but with some careful EQ you should be able to nail all eras of his tone. The switchable power output makes it suitable for a variety of contexts, the lowest 10-watt setting still loud enough to peel paint off the wall.

The tuning’s use was popularized by Slipknot on their self-titled album. Compared to standard tuning of a guitar E A D G B e the first (thickest or lower sound) string is tuned 5 frets lower (from E to B). The second string is tuned 3 frets lower (from A to F♯). The third string is tuned 3 frets lower (from D to B).

Most of their work is in E standard, but Load and ReLoad are in Eb standard, with one or maybe two songs on those albums in Drop Db. St Anger is in Drop C if I recall. Standard mostly, D Standard for two, Eb for live on most occasions, Drop C for St.

C Sharp tuning (C#) is a gorgeous guitar tuning which offers new colours and textures to a player. A guitar in standard tuning would have the strings read (from thickest to thinnest) E, A, D, G, B, E. When we change from standard to C# (C sharp) tuning the strings will read C#, F#, B, E, G#, C#.
