Although paper had been known as a wrapping and padding material in China since the 2nd century BC, the first documented use of toilet paper in human history dates back to the 6th century AD, in early medieval China.

The main practices that are prohibited are usury, ambiguity in contracts (gharar), gambling and games of chance (maysir), fraud, bribery, the use of false weights and measures, taking others’ property unlawfully, and transactions on prohibited (haram) things.

Traditional theory of Islamic jurisprudence recognizes four sources of Sharia: the Quran, sunnah (authentic hadith), qiyas (analogical reasoning), and ijma (juridical consensus).

Ritual cleansing In South Asia, the lota is employed to cleanse oneself. In Bengali, the term lotā is used for bath mugs. People of the South Asia diaspora may use watering cans, empty bottles or cups for cleansing purpose. Muslims use lota for the istinja cleansing rituals, such as wudu, bath and anal cleansing.

Istinja The action using toilet paper, clean stones or sand alone is called Istinja. Istijmar is the equivalent action just using stones, toilet paper, or anything else that is pure without the water. The aim of this is to remove the impurity and maintain hygiene in accordance with Islamic law and principal.

Bathing (ghusl) after oral sex If a husband does have oral sex with his wife, and ejaculates semen, then ghusl is obligatory according to Islamic sexual hygienical jurisprudence; however, if he only releases Madhy (pre-ejaculatory fluids) then Wudu is only required, and has to wash the Madhy away.

According to Sunni Muslims According to Sunni Islam, the following invalidate wudu: Sleeping with the help of support – sleeping while standing or sitting without taking any kind of support does not break wudu.

Sunnah of Ghusl

1. Washing both the hands up to the wrists.
2. Wash the private parts with the left hand and remove dirt or filth from the body.
3. Perform wudu (ablution).
4. Pour water over the head three times, and rub the hair so that the water reaches the roots of the hair.

In Islamic law, najis (Arabic: نجس‎) means ritually unclean. Contact with najis things brings a Muslim into a state of ritual impurity (Arabic: نجاسة‎ najāsa, in opposition to ṭahārah, ritual purity). Ritual purification is then required before religious duties such as regular prayers are performed.

Wudu consists of washing the face, arms, then wiping the head and finally washing the feet with water. Wudu is an important part of ritual purity in Islam. Purification of the body and clothes is called taharah.

The bidet is designed to promote personal hygiene and is used after defecation, and before and after sexual intercourse. It can also be used to wash feet, with or without filling it up with water. In several European countries, a bidet is today required by law to be present in every bathroom containing a toilet bowl.

Fiqh deals with the observance of rituals, morals and social legislation in Islam as well as political system. In the modern era, there are four prominent schools (madh’hab) of fiqh within Sunni practice, plus two (or three) within Shi’a practice. A person trained in fiqh is known as a faqīh (plural fuqaha).
