Sarah was childless until she was 90 years old. God promised Abraham that she would be “a mother of nations” (Genesis 17:16) and that she would conceive and bear a son, but Sarah did not believe. Isaac, born to Sarah and Abraham in their old age, was the fulfillment of God’s promise to them.

Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household or bought with his money, every male in his household, and circumcised them, as God told him.

Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him. When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him. Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

When God called Abram to go to a country He would show him, the call came with God’s promise that in Abram “all families of the earth” would be blessed. Abram and Sarai had no children, yet God promised to make Abram’s name great.

Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. The LORD appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.

According to the biblical book of Genesis, Abraham left Ur, in Mesopotamia, because God called him to found a new nation in an undesignated land that he later learned was Canaan. He obeyed unquestioningly the commands of God, from whom he received repeated promises and a covenant that his “seed” would inherit the land.

Because Abrahams father and his family were into idol worshiping, God called out Abraham and told him to go live in a different land. Abraham never left his father (all the rest are lies invented in the jails of Babylon to accredit the thesis that the Jews had no link with the Egyptians.

Biblical narrative God tells Abram that he would have a son born to him, asks him to count the stars, if possible, and promises “So shall thy seed be.” God commands Abram to prepare an animal sacrifice.

In Galatians 3. 8 the scripture says, “foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all the nations be blessed.” Abraham was the first man to receive the call of God. He was called because he was chosen; the call implies the choice.

You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you. God promised to make Abraham the father of a great people and said that Abraham and his descendants must obey God. In return God would guide them and protect them and give them the land of Israel.

The reason is because He knew God had sent Him into the world for one reason: To become the complete and final sacrifice for our sins. This could only be accomplished if He endured the judgment and death we all deserve for our sins — and this is exactly what happened when He went to the cross.

Jewish views In rabbinical tradition, the age of Isaac at the time of binding is taken to be 37, which contrasts with common portrayals of Isaac as a child. The rabbis also thought that the reason for the death of Sarah was the news of the intended sacrifice of Isaac.

Mount Moriah, according to Jewish tradition, is the place where many pivotal events in Jewish history took place. Traditionally, creation of the world began from the Foundation Stone at the peak of mountain. This is also where Adam, the first human, was created.

An angel stopped Abraham when he was about to slay his son and replaced Isaac with a ram; this is the last of the 10 trials to which God subjected Abraham.

Methuselah

When mankind had become corrupted in the period preceding the flood, God said: ‘My spirit shall not abide in man for ever, for he is flesh; his days shall be a hundred and twenty years’ (Gen. 6:3).
