The material issues that went into the making of the sociology are : 1) The new form of capitalism i.e the growth of industrial revolution manufacturing involved new institutions and attitudes. Entrepreneurs were engaged in pursuit of profits, markets acted as the key instrument of productive life.

A pluralistic society is a diverse one, where the people in it believe all kinds of different things and tolerate each other’s beliefs even when they don’t match their own. A pluralistic society accepts many different sorts of people, from different races, sexual orientations, cultures, and religions.

The social esteem for an individual depends on the culture of his/her ‘relevant society’. Its concern is with the way norms and values function in actual societies. Empirical study of societies involve observation and to collect findings. Sociology has from its beginnings understood itself as a science.

Scope of Sociology: The overall objective of sociology is to systematically understand how individuals and groups create, maintain and change social relationships, social structures and institutions over time.

Comte gave the science of sociology its name and established the new subject in a systematic fashion.

The term sociology was first used by Frenchman Auguste Compte in the 1830s when he proposed a synthetic science uniting all knowledge about human activity. In the academic world, sociology is considered one of the social sciences.
