What did Huey Long want to do for Americans? He advocated income redistribution and “Share Our Wealth” societies. He delivered immediate relief to the suffering and powerless. He also wanted to distribute $3 million to those suffering from poverty and the homeless.

Why was Father Charles Coughlin opposed to the New Deal? He accused Roosevelt of being influenced by the major bankers who he blamed for the depression. He called for the nationalism of industry, inflationary measures to be implemented and greater use of silver coinage.

Roosevelt sought to reverse this by changing the makeup of the court through the appointment of new additional justices who he hoped would rule that his legislative initiatives did not exceed the constitutional authority of the government.

How did the new Deal impact the federal government? It expanded the powers of the federal gov’t by establishing regulatory bodies & laying the foundation of a social welfare system. In the future the gov’t would regulate business & provide social welfare programs to avoid social & economic problems.

The term while FDR was taking office. This act passed March 20th of 1933 gave FDR the power to cut government workers’ salaries and reduce payments to military veterans for non-service-connected disabilities as well as having the ability to reorganize federal agencies in the interest of reducing expenses.
