Silicon Valley is an American comedy television series created by Mike Judge, John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky. It premiered on HBO on April 6, 2014, running for a total of six seasons of 53 episodes.

The idea for Silicon Valley began during the Great Depression. Stanford engineering professor Frederick Terman decided to create more jobs opportunities for his students. He encouraged two of his them, William Hewlett and David Packard. After World War II, Terman became Dean of the engineering school.

Silicon Valley is called Silicon Valley because of sand. Many companies manufacturing computer chips (like Intel) were either operating or headquartered throughout the region, now known as Silicon Valley back, in 1971. The first ingredient in the manufacturing process of computer chips happens to be – sand.

Turns out, the southern region of the San Francisco Bay now known as Silicon Valley used to have a different name entirely. In the early 1900s, it was called the “Valley of Heart’s Delight,” a name inspired by the region’s myriad orchards and acres filled with ripening fruit.

The characters of HBO’s ‘Silicon Valley’ are inspired by real people in the tech world — here they are. In an interview with INSIDER in 2017, “Silicon Valley” showrunner Alec Berg said the writers find inspiration for the series’ storylines in real events and people.

In reality, the hack doesn’t work and if you do tell Siri “17,” you will unwittingly be calling for emergency services. According to the Siri user guide, iPhones automatically call the local emergency number no matter what emergency number you say.
