Some Churches celebrate use Epiphany to celebrate and remember both the visit of the Wise Men and Jesus’s Baptism! Epiphany is mainly celebrated by Catholics and Orthodox Christians. In Orthodox churches, Epiphany is also known as ‘The Feast of the Holy Theophany’ and it is as important as Christmas.

Some Popes kiss a statue baby Jesus. Some people dress as the Three Kings. Rub the pork all over with the cumin and 1/2 teaspoon salt; set aside. Three Kings Day is celebrated on January 6th and is the celebration of the three wise men who bring gifts to Jesus in the Bible.

• Mexico. The Aztec country celebrates this day by adding figurines of the Three Wise Men to the nativity on January 5.

Epiphany

Three wise men, or Magi as they were known, whose names were Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar, traveled a far distance to pay homage to Christ. They brought with them fine gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Three Kings Day, or El Dia de Reyes, remains an important holiday for Catholics.

Myrrh being commonly used as an anointing oil, frankincense as a perfume, and gold as a valuable. The three gifts had a spiritual meaning: gold as a symbol of kingship on earth, frankincense (an incense) as a symbol of deity, and myrrh (an embalming oil) as a symbol of death.

The Three Kings, or Magi, are mentioned only in the Gospel of Matthew 2:1-12. Few details are given about these men in the Bible, and most of our ideas about them actually come from tradition or speculation.

Magus, plural Magi, member of an ancient Persian clan specializing in cultic activities. The name is the Latinized form of magoi (e.g., in Herodotus 1:101), the ancient Greek transliteration of the Iranian original. From it the word magic is derived.

The History behind the Three Kings/Wise Men/Magi in the Christmas Story. After Jesus was born, Wise Men came to look for Him, probably from an area which is now in either Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia the Yemen, or an area in what’s now southern Turkey, northern Syria.

They were the followers of Daniel, who had left them instructions telling them exactly when they should begin looking for the Messiah!
