Rainsford must survive on the island for three days while the general hunts him using a small caliber pistol and help from his servant and hunting dogs. Rainsford ends up winning this game by successfully avoiding General Zaroff and surviving for three consecutive days on Ship-Trap Island.

Rainsford sets three different traps over the course of the hunt to hinder his capture. The “Maylay man catcher, the Burmese tiger pit, and a trick using a tree spring. He scatters his tracks, hides in a tree, and jumps off a cliff into the ocean. Jumping off the cliff fooled Zaroff completely and was his undoing.
