Pi-hole is a general purpose network-wide ad-blocker that protects your network from ads and trackers without requiring any setup on individual devices. It is able to block ads on any network device (e.g. smart appliances), and, unlike browser add-ons, Pi-hole blocks ads on any type of software.

Installing Pi-Hole on to the devices with Blocking Rules causes slow down Internet access to all devices being monitored.

But the newly built Pi-hole cannot block all the ads, especially YouTube. After adding them, you need to update the list with the command pihole -g. Once that’s done, the updated dashboard should look like the below image. Now the list is upgraded, the Pi-hole should be able to block more ads.

Know what Pi-hole can (and cannot) do before you start Most online ads are delivered by third-party sites, so it’s easy for a service like Pi-hole to identify the sites that serve these ads and block them.
