The Republican Party emerged in 1854 to combat the Kansas–Nebraska Act and the expansion of slavery into American territories.

The North was doing all it could to stop the South and its expansion of slavery into the new western territories. The main political goal of the North was in fact to stop the expansion of slavery not abolish it from the South.

The issue of slavery caused tension between the North and the South. In the North, the antislavery movement had slowly been gaining strength since the 1830s. Abolitionists believed that slavery was unjust and should be abolished immediately. Many Northerners who opposed slavery took a less extreme position.

It became law on May 30, 1854. The Kansas-Nebraska Act repealed the Missouri Compromise, created two new territories, and allowed for popular sovereignty. It also produced a violent uprising known as “Bleeding Kansas,” as proslavery and antislavery activists flooded into the territories to sway the vote.

Nebraska has three congressional districts due to its population, each of which elects a member to the United States House of Representatives. An estimate from 2014 indicates that in 2020 Nebraska will have 1.957 million inhabitants, 90,000 inhabitants more than necessary for a third district.

Nebraska became the 37th state on March 1, 1867, and the capital was moved from Omaha to the center at Lancaster, later renamed Lincoln after the recently assassinated President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln.

Nebraska is the thirty-third richest state in the United States of America, with a per capita income of $19,613 (2000).

During the early Paleozoic, Nebraska was covered by a shallow sea that was probably home to creatures like brachiopods, corals, and trilobites. During the early Cenozoic, the sea withdrew and the state was home to mammals like camels and rhinoceros.

In 1803, the United States purchased the Louisiana Territory from France for $15,000,000. What became Nebraska was under the “rule” of the United States for the first time. In 1812, President James Madison signed a bill creating the Missouri Territory, including the present-day state of Nebraska.

Under the motto “sell cheap and tell the truth,” she worked in the business until age 103. In 1983, Mrs. B. sold a majority interest to Berkshire Hathaway in a handshake deal with Warren Buffett….Nebraska Furniture Mart.
