Bartemius “Barty” Crouch, Jr. (gone undercover as Dark Wizard hunter Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody) is the main antagonist of the fourth Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and its film adaptation. He is a Dark Wizard and an infamous Death Eater.

Bartemius “Barty” Crouch Junior (c. Crouch and his parents hatched a plot under which Crouch’s mother would take his place in Azkaban, using the Polyjuice Potion to disguise herself. She died and was buried in Azkaban, with the result that the wizarding world believed that Crouch himself was dead.

When the Dementor’s Kiss is performed, the Dementor will pull back its hood, clamp its jaw around the victim’s mouth, and consume his or her soul. The Dementor’s Kiss is generally considered to be a punishment worse than death. It is unknown what happens to souls once a Dementor “ingests” them.

After Voldemort freed his son from the Imperius Curse Crouch put on him, Crouch’s sanity was damaged by the Imperius Curse Voldemort put on him, leaving him in a delusional and weakened state after he managed to fight the Imperius Curse, and resulted in his death at the hands of his own son.

Sirius isn’t sure whether Crouch Jr. is guilty, but confirms that he was indeed found in the company of Death Eaters.
