Different Minecraft Editions

Minecraft: Xbox One Edition is the Legacy Console Edition version of Minecraft developed by 4J Studios and Mojang Studios for the Xbox One. The Xbox One Edition has all Legacy Console Edition exclusive features, the most notable being Mini games.

Minecraft: Xbox One Edition is the legacy version of the game, and has essentially been superseded by Minecraft. Minecraft: Xbox One Edition is part of the Minecraft: Console Edition version of the game. It is no longer available to purchase digitally, but can still be purchased on disc.

If you go to the Microsoft Store page for Minecraft: Xbox One Edition, the game is rated at 4.5 stars out of 5 with 111,000 reviews. In contrast, the new Minecraft entry is rated at 2.5 stars out of 5, with 5,634 reviews as of this writing.

There are two versions of Minecraft available on Xbox One. Recently, Tom Stone wrote on Minecraft’s website that “existing Minecraft: Xbox One Edition players now have until November 30, 2019 to redeem their free update to the Bedrock version.” If you haven’t upgraded, be sure to do so before this promotion expires.

Minecraft RTX is an official Nvidia-developed patch for Minecraft adding real-time DXR raytracing to the Windows 10 version of the game. The whole game is, in Nvidia’s words, “refit” with path tracing, which dramatically affects the way light, reflections and shadows work inside the game engine.

Bedrock Edition
In the case of Minecraft on Xbox One, if you purchase the game now on the Xbox Store, it’s the Bedrock Edition, called “Minecraft”. If you had the previous Minecraft: Xbox One Edition, you get the new version for free, but the old one remains installed on your console.
