Shore Fishing:

• Interstate Park: Anglers may fish from shore within the park.
• Osceola Landing: There is a nice picnic area adjacent to the boat access where anglers may fish from shore.
• William O’Brien Park: The lower campground is a very popular site for shore fishing.

Position and crimp a couple of small split shot sinkers on your line a foot or two above the hook. You’ll have the best chance of catching fish if you let your worm sit on the bottom of the river. That’s right… you’ll probably catch more fish on the St. Croix River if you leave your bobbers in your tacklebox.

Croix River — are ‘impaired. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency said Tuesday the river didn’t meet limits on phosphorus and chlorophyll, nutrients that cloud the water and affect aquatic life. The nutrients don’t affect the safety of swimming or eating fish.

Channel catfish are exciting sport fish and tasty table fare that are becoming more and more popular with Minnesota anglers. They can be found in large and small rivers, lakes, and ponds. In Minnesota, channel catfish are common in the Minnesota River, Mississippi River, St. Croix River, and Red River of the North.

A WI resident must have a WI fishing license to fish the Croix. If you live in another state, you can fish with either license. You can fish the entire river (not just to the imaginary border line). You can stand on either bank and shore fish as well.

The St. Croix’s depth here averages 70 feet, but holes are as deep as 100 feet. Today the Dalles area is preserved in the Interstate Parks of Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Walleyes are on jigging raps, nightcrawlers, leeches, minnows, and crankbaits. Saugers are hit and miss. Mostly channel cats still but they are big channels! Crappies been scarce.
