Tenet is the name of the organization that the Protagonist himself created—more on that in a bit—to keep the earth’s timeline flowing correctly. It’s also an interlocking hand gesture that indicates the flowing of time backward and forward, and a palindrome that’s spelled the same way in either direction.

A tenet is a principle held as being true, especially by an organization or a group of people. A tenant is (1) someone who pays rent to occupy property; (2) a dweller in a place; and, (3) in law, one who holds or possesses lands, tenements, or property by any kind of title.

Any backward moving person will unable to communicate coordinate with a forward movie person. When one is inverted, they need inverted oxygen to breathe. For the first time The Protagonist inverts we see him wear the mask.

Tenet is a time-reversal movie you won’t watch twice. Whichever, his obsession with bending time to his will is clearer than ever with his latest, a film that dazzles and amazes but never quite makes as much sense as you’d like it to.

Watch it backward. You’ll notice, for one thing, that the word “tenet” is both spelled and pronounced the same backward as it is forward.

Performance Worth Watching: Well, Branagh and his silly Russian accent turn the scenery into a Vegas buffet. So my vote goes to Washington, who proved to be a find in BlacKKKlansman; after Tenet, I’d like to see him once again play less of a non-character.

In Christopher Nolan’s film Tenet, the character Neil (played exceptionally well by Robert Pattinson) argues that in spite of reverse time irradiation allowing for a type of closed-loop time travel, free will still exists and what one chooses to do has meaning in both regular and reverse chronology.

Ultimately, though he passes out from ingesting it, the pill is a fake, planted as a means to test The Protagonist’s commitment to the cause and his team. When he chooses death over giving away secrets, he is recruited by Tenet.

At the end of the movie, Neil reveals to The Protagonist (John David Washington) that from his perspective, the two of them have known each other for years, even though as far as The Protagonist knows, they’ve just met. Which makes a lot of sense, if it turns out that Neil is actually Max.

Neil is Kat’s son By far the most popular Tenet theory doing the rounds is that Neil – the posh British spy played by Robert Pattinson – is actually Max, the child of Kat (Elizabeth Debicki) and Sator (Kenneth Branagh). Because we actually see Neil at the opera – he even saves The Protagonist.

Warner Bros. Unfortunately, for the mission to succeed, the Protagonist realises that Neil is killed when he goes backwards to help them. And it was all set up in the future by the Protagonist, along with the Tenet organisation itself (presumably).

Neil’s On-Screen Tenet Timeline. As the temporal loop in Tenet has no set beginning or end, at least in the way one is conditioned to perceive, it is best to map events in chronological order from a narratorial perspective.

During the battle, Neil goes back through the “time stile” machine, which inverts his entropy and allows him to travel backwards through the event. So he is effectively stuck in a time loop, exiting the event only to go back in, reliving the events of “Tenet” over and over again.

An arms dealer based in Mumbai, Priya Singh uses her husband (Denzil Smith) as a cover to operate in what she sees as a man’s world. She is the member of Tenet and it is she who sends the protagonist to chase after Sator.

Sator uses a ‘temporal pincer movement’ to retrieve the final part of the Algorithm – that is, moving forwards and backwards through time to guarantee an end result, which is what Sator is doing during the film’s complex car chase sequence.

Nothing happens on Sator’s death, it doesn’t even trigger the explosion which would’ve buried the time capsule.
