The party in government is the elected officials who belong to the party. These politicians are responsible for proposing, debating, voting on, and signing legislation that meets the party’s platform goals.

The politics of Puerto Rico are dominated by three political parties: the Partido Nuevo Progresista (PNP), the Partido Popular Democratico (PPD), and the Partido Independentista Puertorriqueño (PIP).

1. The party-in-the-electorate are individuals who perceive themselvesas party members; many voters have a party identification that guides and influences their votes. The party as an organization has a national office, a full-time staff,rules and bylaws, and budgets.

Third parties also serve an important role in our political system by forcing major political parties to address new issues they might not have previously addressed very much. And third party candidates can also greatly impact an election by taking away votes from one of the major political party candidates.

A political party platform or program is a formal set of principle goals which are supported by a political party or individual candidate, in order to appeal to the general public, for the ultimate purpose of garnering the general public’s support and votes about complicated topics or issues.

The major issue of the Lincoln-Douglas debates was that since Lincoln didn’t support slavery, it may end. Despite his loss in the election, how did Lincoln become the leader of the Republican Party? Lincoln became the leader of the Republican Party with his powerful arguments against slavery.

The main focus of these debates was slavery and its influence on American politics and society—specifically the slave power, popular sovereignty, race equality, emancipation, etc.

The Know-Nothing Party intended to prevent Catholics and immigrants from being elected to political offices. Its members also hoped to deny these people jobs in the private sector, arguing that the nation’s business owners needed to employ true Americans.
