The only similarity is that the two phenomena take place in a large body of water like the oceans. Some early geographical texts referred to the phenomenon as seismic waves. Tsunamis have high wavelengths and low amplitudes. The wavelength can stretch to a few hundred miles long.

Although both are sea waves, a tsunami and a tidal wave are two different and unrelated phenomena. A tidal wave is a shallow water wave caused by the gravitational interactions between the Sun, Moon, and Earth (“tidal wave” was used in earlier times to describe what we now call a tsunami.)

Waves are caused by the transfer of energy from their source to the ocean. Tsunamis are generated by large and sudden displacements of the ocean, usually caused by an earthquake below or near the ocean floor. Most other ocean waves are caused by wind blowing over the water (wind waves).

Tidal waves are waves created by the gravitational forces of the sun or moon, and cause changes in the level of water bodies. Tsunami is a series of water waves caused by the displacement of large bodies of water. They generally have low amplitude but a high (a few hundred km long) wavelength.

Prehistoric insects are various groups of insects that lived before recorded history. Their study is the field of paleoentomology. Insects inhabited Earth since before the time of the dinosaurs. The earliest identifiable insect is the Devonian Rhyniognatha hirsti, estimated at 407 to 396 million years ago.

Silverfish are one of the most ancient insects on the planet. They even predate the dinosaurs by 100 million years, meaning they’ve been crawling around for more than 400 million years. This, and the fact that they have fish-like scales, is probably why this insect’s name sounds more like a fish.

What Problems Do Silverfish Cause? Silverfish feed on starchy materials and items that are high in protein. They are active at night and cause damage to books, stored food, and clothing. While these insects do cause problems, silverfish are not harmful to human health and do not carry any diseases.

Dust your home often. This will keep silverfish from particles that may contain starches or saccharides that they like to eat.

As ancient dinosaurs evolved the ability to fly, eventually becoming modern birds, they put a cap on insect size through predation and competition. The earliest known bird – Archaeopteryx – appeared about 150 million years ago. Birds proved to be faster and more agile than the giant insects.
