THE MOST IMPORTANT C IS CUT A diamond’s cut is always difficult to quantify than its color, clarity and carat weight. Cuts vary from a diamond to diamond and how cutters choose to shape, facet and polish the diamond.

If you ever find a diamond ring, or any lost property, don’t assume that you can keep it. Always attempt to find the owner if possible, or turn the item in to the police. Most states will allow finders to keep the property if the owner does not show up to claim it after a certain time.

How To Choose A Diamond

1. First, further reduce Clarity. Go as low as SI1.
2. Next, reduce Color. Go as low as J. If you know the diamond will be set in yellow gold, you could safely drop to K.
3. Finally, reduce the Cut. Go as low as Good in round diamonds, and Fair in fancy shapes.

Which is the most important of the four C’s?

• Cut: The most important of all the diamond characteristics as it most readily impacts a diamond’s beauty.
• Color: The second most important aspect to focus on.
• Clarity: The third most important characteristic on the list.
• Carat: Last but not least.

Looking at both stones under natural light, diamonds show a strong white light (the “diamond’s fire” or “brilliance”) whereas cubic zirconia gives off much more colored lights (the “rainbow effect”) as cubic zirconia has a lower refractive index and higher dispersion rate than diamonds.

Moissanite is one of the best faux diamonds that exist. It is made of silicon carbide and is almost as hard as real diamond (moissanite’s hardness is 9.5 on the Mohs scale, whereas diamond’s is 10). Moissanite is also reasonably colorless and looks much like the real thing.

The most effective way to tell Moissanite apart from a diamond is to use a loupe to look through the top, or the crown, of the jewel at an angle. You will see two slightly blurred lines that indicates a double refraction, an inherent quality of Moissanite. Double refraction is easier to see in some shapes than others.
