Used in yards, farms and parks throughout the world, Roundup has long been a top-selling weed killer. But now researchers have found that one of Roundup’s inert ingredients can kill human cells, particularly embryonic, placental and umbilical cord cells.

Examples of contact herbicides are diclofop, dinoseb, diquat, and paraquat. Certain contact herbicides, like diquat and paraquat, are deactivated by soil particles. Examples of translocated herbicides are atrazine, glyphosate 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and simazine.

Quaker Old Fashioned Oats were found to have the most glyphosate per sample, with more than 1,000 ppb in two of three samples tested. The lab found extremely high levels of glyphosate in some of the most popular U.S. food products, including Cheerios (1,125.3 ppb), Stacy’s Pita Chips (812.53 ppb), Doritos Cool Ranch (481.27 ppb), and Back to Nature Crispy Cheddar Crackers (327.22 ppb).
