How to order fractions

Summary:

1. You can make equivalent fractions by multiplying or dividing both top and bottom by the same amount.
2. You only multiply or divide, never add or subtract, to get an equivalent fraction.

So called similar fractions are those parts of a whole which are expressed with the same denominators, while those with different denominators are called dissimilar fractions.

The difference between Dissimilar and Similar When used as adjectives, dissimilar means not similar, whereas similar means having traits or characteristics in common. Similar is also noun with the meaning: that which is similar to, or resembles, something else, as in quality, form, etc.

• Step 1: Find the least common denominators. Given a set of fractions with unlike denominators, find the least common denominator (LCD) shared by the fractions.
• Step 2: Determine the equivalent fractions sharing the LCD.
• Step 3: Arrange the numerators.
• Step 4: Rewrite the fractions.

Hence, 41 is the smallest fraction.

When writing a fraction there are two main parts: the numerator and the denominator. The numerator is how many parts you have. The denominator is how many parts the whole was divided into. Fractions are written with the numerator over the denominator and a line in between them.
